Mt Science Pub Spring 2026

We had an impressive and informative lineup for our Spring Science Pub series and a great turnout from the community.

Jay Wilson from Clackamas County Disaster Management kicked things off in January with a discussion of hazards associated with living next to an active volcano. In February, Zach Littlefield from Portland General Electric discussed the science and technology that goes into Public Safety Power Shutoffs and the improvements to the system over the past half decade. In March we took a deeper look at the wildland fire behavior that leads to structure losses and how to harden are homes against it with Steve Wilent from Mt Hood Community College. And we finished off the series with Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue Division Chief Chris Grant who discussed lessons learned from last summer’s destructive Rowena fire.

A big thanks to all of our experts and to the Rendezvous Grill for hosting the events. We will pick the series back up after fire season in September.
